Why I Do What I Do
I’m obsessed with mattresses, and all things sleep! If you’re wondering where my sleep obsession began, it happened on a Sunday in August 2017. I was playing footie in our local league match when suddenly, I got caught on the wrong side of a flying tackle. Sure, you getting tackled when playing football is no big deal. Except for this time around, I sustained back injuries that plague me ’till this very day.
How can I possibly lay on my bed without cringing in pain and discomfort? Much less get some sleep. Then it occurred to me, “grab a pain-friendly mattress for myself, of course!” And so, from that epiphany, I was reborn a mattress-lover.
Sure, I’ve encountered a lot of mattresses that helped relieve my body pain when sleeping. But I became fascinated with mattresses, which made me want to check out one mattress after another. At this point, I’ve probably tried on more mattresses than anyone else in England!
Then another life-changing question occurred to me “Why be selfish with my mattress experience?” I’m sure thousands of Brits out there experience similar aches and pains that makes it nearly impossible to get a decent night’s sleep.
And so, the Sleep Checklist was born. Your faithful companion in all things sleep-related.
Now that you know a tad of my backstory let’s check out the brand – Eve Sleep – and how they came to be one of the top mattress companies of today! Then we’ll move on to the nitty-gritty!
Eve Sleep Backstory
Eve was founded and launched in the UK by Jas Bagniewski in 2014. They’ve expanded to Germany and are planning to launch in the US as of today. After Jas left his venture-capital job, he and his friends exchanged ideas about sleep.
They were frustrated with the sleep industry at that time because they observed that “We found the sleep space to be very elitist – it seemed like only rich people could afford to sleep really well.” Having a “fundamental problem” with this situation, they developed their own affordable and more consumer-friendly mattress for everyday folks.
After a series of experiments and product-testings, they finally came up with Eve Original mattress.
The all-foam Eve Original mattress took flight with its patented Evercomfort® layer “30x more breathable than the old stuff”. With traditional memory foam, you feel like you’re sinking. But with Eve Original, you’ll immediately feel the plushness of memory foam without the sinking sensation!
Today they have 6 mattresses you can choose from:
- Original Mattress
- Original Hybrid Mattress
- Premium Mattress
- Premium Hybrid Mattress
- Lighter Mattress
- Lighter Hybrid Mattress
I bet one of these is meant for you!
Curious as to how Eve’s current performance? If 4.6 out of 5 stars from a whooping 6,000 ratings on Trustpilot is anything to go by, it clearly shows that Eve sleep is still rocking it!
In this review, we will take a closer look at the Premium Hybrid Mattress. Excited? C’mon!
Mattress at a Glance
Overview:
One of the defining characteristics of Eve Premium Hybrid is its impressive mattress depth at 28cm. That’s way more than many other mattresses out there. It has 7 quality layers making up a hybrid mattress worth your attention!
- Top Cover
The OEKO-TEX® certified top cover has tiny silver particles interwoven into the mostly polyester fabric, making it antibacterial and antimicrobial. How’s that for a supreme quality cover? PLUS, it’s removable with a simple zipper! Throw it for a quick spin in the washing machine at 40°, and you’re good to go!
- Floatfoam® layer with active cooling
The graphite-infused Floatfoam® layer is an upgrade from the evercomfort® layer of the Original Eve mattress. True to its name, I felt weightless when I first plopped down onto the Eve Premium Hybrid bed. And I thought, “So this is what Floatfoam® does. I can get used to this!”
- Memory layer with active cooling
You may feel like you’re floating with Floatfoam® (if you choose to get Eve Premium Hybrid for yourself). Still, I believe this memory foam layer adds to the light relief sensation! It’s also infused with graphite to keep you cool even during the warmest nights.
- Support layer
This is where it gets a bit serious. The support foam layer is much firmer than the first two because it’s entirely dedicated to keeping your spine in the correct alignment, so you’ll wake up pain-free!
- Foam casing
This is the transition layer from the foam to the spring section of the mattress. It adds strength to the edges to maximise the entire mattress space. Especially handy when you have a sleeping partner!
- Spring layer
The Eve Premium Hybrid contains 1,500 individually-cased 12-cm full-size pocket springs to give you all the support you need! The springs constantly adjust to your every movement.
- Anti-slip base
The non-slip coating at the base of the Eve Premium Hybrid keeps all the layers in their proper places to give you the best sleep experience you could possibly have.
In case you’re worried if the Eve Lighter Hybrid mattress is a safe mattress to sleep on, here’s evidence that Eve Sleep strictly complies with health standards:
- All foam materials used are CertiPUR® certified and CFC and PBDE free.
- Eve Sleep gets its raw materials from National Bed Federation members to ensure high quality.
- Each Eve mattress complies with UK fire regulations BS 7177:2008 +A1:2011 Low hazard for domestic use.
- Eve Sleep also manufactures its mattresses using ISO 9001 quality standards.
You’re very much acquainted with the Eve Premium Hybrid mattress at this point. Now I’ll share with you my own personal experience.
Off-Gassing
Off-gassing refers to the initial plastic-like smell wafting off your newly inflated bed-in-a-box mattress. Did I have it with the Eve Premium Hybrid? Certainly. And I believe the smell lasted longer than I’m used to.
Rating: 3/ 5
Firmness
Firmness is probably the most subjective part of any mattress. Why do I say that mattress firmness is subjective? Because in the end, it all goes down to how your body reacts to the mattress. Hardly any two people react the same way with one mattress!
Various sleeping positions experience unique pressure points. When you sleep on your side, it’s your shoulder that gets the brunt of your weight. But when you sleep on your front, it’s your stomach that’s the heaviest. Here’s the catch – each pressure point reacts differently with the mattress. I bet you’re beginning to see how subjective firmness can be!
Going back to Eve Premium Hybrid, I’d rate it 7 out of 10 on the mattress firmness scale, which is firm.
I’m an average weight of 75 kg (165 lbs) for reference. So if you’re heavier than me, you’d find it softer, but if you’re lighter than me, you will find it firmer.
How do we find out if you will like the Eve Premium Hybrid? The best, no-brainer solution is to figure out which sleeping position you are in and then jump straight to that section of this review. You’ll find all the information you need without having to read sections on sleeping positions that may not interest you. Remember, your sleeping position is vital for having your best night’s sleep.

Is it Good for Backsleepers?
What back sleepers need: Medium-firm to firm
Pressure Point: Lower Back
Back sleepers need a medium-firm to firm mattress to support the weight exerted on your back and keep that spine nice and straight.
If it were any softer, your lower back might sink into the mattress, causing your back to curve abnormally. I’m no fortune teller, but I know from experience when you sleep with a curvy back, you’ll most likely groan from the back pain and aches in the morning! And as we get older, they only become more prominent – trust me!
Average weight Back sleeper: Between 59-104kg (130-230lbs)
The Eve Premium Hybrid feels soft at first because of the Floatfoam® layer and the memory foam layer underneath it. But almost immediately after, I began to experience the firmness of the support layer and the spring layer containing 1,500 individually wrapped 12cm full-sized springs.
Result? My spinal alignment remained in excellent shape. I also felt some contouring happening around my lower back, which felt relieving. The Eve Premium Hybrid mattress feels incredibly comforting when I plop down on it after a long day (aahh).
If you’re an average weight back sleeper, then I’m definitely recommending the Eve Premium Hybrid mattress for you!
Lightweight Back sleeper: Less than 59kg (130lbs)
If I felt that the Eve Premium Hybrid Mattress is firm, as a lightweight back sleeper, you’ll perceive it as firmer than I do. That’s not a problem at all with back sleepers! Since you need a firm mattress to keep your spinal alignment in check. Both the Floatfoam® layer and memory layers provide pressure relief on your lower back.
But if you want a bit more plushness, why not try a memory foam topper to soften the mattress surface a tad? Check this out INTERNAL LINK as I think it’s best suited for the Eve Premium Hybrid.
Heavyweight Back sleeper: More than 104kgs (>230lbs)
If I feel that the Eve Premium Hybrid is firm, you’ll experience that it’ll feel softer than I do. “Don’t I need a firm mattress to keep my spine straight?” you may ask. I say, brilliant work! Thanks for taking notes. *wink wink*
That’s true. Remember how I gave the Eve Premium Hybrid a “7” on the firmness scale? Since you exert more pressure than me, you’ll find it somewhere from 6-6.5. Still in the medium-firm level!
So you see, the Eve Premium Hybrid Mattress is packed with firm support layers and 1,500 12cm full-sized springs to keep you straight atop the mattress.
Plus, you’ll feel more supportive contouring on your lower back than I did since you’ll exert more pressure on both the comfort Floatfoam® and memory layer. Lucky you!

Is it Good for Side sleepers?
What side sleepers need: Very soft to medium-soft
Pressure Point: Shoulder
Side sleepers need a very soft to medium-soft mattress to give your side a gentle cradle since it carries most of your weight.
If the mattress is on the firm side, then your pressured shoulder will have to bear most of your body weight. Which is not a very comfortable experience. At all.
Average weight Side Sleeper: Between 59-104kg (130-230lbs)
As with most side sleepers (I’m a natural right side sleeper), I prefer a soft mattress to melt into for maximum pressure relief on my shoulder.
Sadly, since the Eve Premium Hybrid is firm for me, my shoulder didn’t sink in. Instead, it remained squashed in between my body and the mattress. And with the massive amount of full-sized 1,500 springs keeping me straight on top of the mattress, it’s no wonder!
Conclusion? The Eve Premium Hybrid is not very shoulder-friendly. If you want to check out softer mattresses, you may want to check this out INTERNAL LINK.
Lightweight Side Sleeper: Less than 59kg (130lbs)
Since I found the Eve Premium Hybrid firm, you’ll find it firmer than I because you exert less pressure on the mattress.
And if I didn’t sink in for a comfortable side-sleeping experience, neither will you! It seems the firm support layers and the full-sized 1,500 springs may not be very shoulder-friendly.
You definitely need a much softer mattress than the Eve Premium Hybrid. So head on over here: INTERNAL LINK.
Heavyweight Side Sleeper: More than 104kgs (230lbs)
Since I found the Eve Premium Hybrid firm, you’ll find it softer because you exert more pressure on the mattress.
Good news for a side sleeper! Right? Uhm…not very much. I rated the Eve Premium Hybrid 7. Even though you’ll find it somewhere between 6-6.5 in terms of firmness, you really want one that will feel softer than the Eve Premium Hybrid.
The firm support layers and the full-sized 1,500 springs are solid that they’ll keep you straight on top of the mattress – which isn’t exactly shoulder-friendly.
We want to sink in the plush comfort of soft mattresses for us side sleepers. Fortunate for you, I’ve got the right suggestions for you! Consider checking these out. INTERNAL LINK

Is it Good for Front Sleepers?
What front sleepers need: Medium Firm to Firm
Pressure points: Stomach and Hips
Stomach sleepers need a medium-firm to firm mattress to keep your stomach from sinking in. Did you know that stomach sleeping is the most challenging when it comes to spinal alignment? Yep, that’s because your spine is naturally pulled down due to the heavy pressure on your stomach.
If your mattress is any softer, your stomach will sink in, bringing your spine along with it!
Average Weight Front Sleeper: Between 59-104kg (130-230lbs)
Did my stomach sink in when front-sleeping on the Eve Premium Hybrid? Nope, it didn’t (thank goodness!) Credits to the firm support layer and 1,500 springs prevent my stomach from sinking.
Lightweight Front Sleeper: Less than 59kg (130lbs)
Since I felt that the Eve Premium Hybrid mattress is firm, this will mean you’ll experience it being firmer than I do. If my stomach didn’t sink in, neither will yours since you exert less pressure on the Eve Premium Hybrid’s firm support layers and spring layer (1,500 springs in total!)
The Floatfoam® layer and the memory layer underneath it will help contour relief to your stomach. In case you still find it too firm, perhaps you’d want to consider purchasing a mattress topper right here. INTERNAL LINK.

Is it Good for Combo Sleepers?
What combo sleepers need: A bit of a bounciness
Combo sleepers need a little bounce to help them roll around and change positions while sleeping. If you were to move around on a dead-feel mattress, you’d have a hard time because you feel stuck.
There is bounce with the Eve Premium Hybrid due to its 12-cm 1,500 springs, but I didn’t experience much. It’s because the spring layer is deeper in the mattress, buried underneath the motion-silencing layers of memory foam.
Though I could move around with relative ease compared with many all-foam mattresses, it’s not as good compared to other hybrids. If you’re looking for a bounce, perhaps you’d want to check this out. INTERNAL LINK
Rating: 3.5/5
Is it Good for Hot Sleepers?
Hot sleepers, like myself, easily wake up drenched in sweat. That’s why we need a breathable mattress to keep us cool even during dry spells. Or else we’d be sweat machines!
One of my favourite features about the Eve Premium Hybrid is its breathability. Its Floatfoam® layer and memory layer, both of which have active cooling properties, really work! The full-sized 1,500 springs add airflow too. I kicked off my mattress topper with this one! I didn’t need any additional temperature-regulating fabric between me and the Eve premium hybrid to keep me cool. Bye-bye topper.

With Sleeping Partner
The most important factor when you have a sleeping partner is the motion isolation. Meaning your partner wouldn’t feel you squirming in your side of the bed.
To be honest, I’m not sure how that can help me at all since my long-time partner treats me like a koala would treat its home tree.
So did the Eve Premium Hybrid make the cut with motion isolation? A big “Yeah!” Thanks to its individually wrapped springs – when I move, only the springs directly underneath me move, leaving the other springs untouched.
Midnight toilet trips won’t be an issue with the Eve Hybrid Premium anymore.
Rating: 5/5
Edge Support
Edge support is vital if you want to maximise the entire area of your mattress. And if you like to sleep on the edge, this is a must.
What can I say of the Eve Premium Hybrid’s edge support? It’s fantastic! And it’s due to the dual spring foam layer that adds strength to the edges.
Result? I didn’t experience any rolling when getting out of bed. Thumbs up for you, Eve Sleep!

Best Features
So what are my 3 favourite bits with Eve Premium Hybrid?
- Breathability
- Edge support
- Motion Isolation
As a “sweat machine”, I’d recommend the Eve Hybrid Premium if you want to stay cool even during the warmest summer night.
I also love its firm edges because I like to sit on it while wearing my sleepers or while staring off into space, wondering about existential matters.
And its efficient motion isolation is a HUGE gain for those with sleeping partners. Especially for those who like to make midnight trips to the toilet!
