Wondering if the Eve Premium Mattress is the right one for you? You may have flipped through one review after another, causing you to feel worn out because you’re taking this mattress-hunting business very seriously. After all, won’t you be stuck with the mattress of your choice for the next 10 years? Definitely not an investment to take lightly!

I know exactly what you’re feeling right now, as I’ve been through this process several times myself. That’s why I immediately placed the summary box at the top of the page, so I won’t waste your time in inviting you to read for a review that’s not meant for you.

To further help you figure out if this mattress review is for you or not, these questions may help you out:

  • Are you a back sleeper?
  • Are you a front sleeper?
  • Do you want a removable cover?
  • Do you want a mattress with minimal smell?
  • Do you prefer a medium-firm mattress with a soft surface?
  • Are you sleeping with a partner?
  • Do you sleep with your pet/s?
  • Are you looking for a mattress that complies with strict safety standards?
  • Do you like a naturally antibacterial mattress?

If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, then this review is made for you! Please feel free to use the table of contents below to jump to the best section for you!

But if you answered “no”, then have a look at these round-ups I made to help you decide which mattress suits your needs and preferences. INSERT INTERNAL LINK(S?)

Why I Do What I Do

I bet you’re wondering, “Why do you review so many mattresses?” Valid question! *chuckles*

My mattress obsession began in August of 2017 when I caught the wrong side of a flying tackle during our local Sunday league match. I sustained horrible back injuries from that nasty accident.

After that incident, I could hardly make myself lay down on my bed because the injuries hurt, and recovery took a very long time. Then I thought of the obvious solution to solve my problem “Why not grab a mattress that’s injury friendly?”

So I tried out one mattress, then another, and another. Did I not find the right mattress for me? Oh, sure I did! TONS of them! But I fell in love with the process of trying out mattresses that I keep exploring what the market has to offer up to this very day.

So if you’re looking for a mattress don’t hesitate to ask me. Because chances are I’ve tried them myself. Now that you know a tad of my backstory let’s take a look at Eve Sleep’s background story and how they came to be one of the top bed-in-a-box mattresses of today.

Eve Sleep – A Brief Introduction

Eve sleep is a top-rated UK-based bed-in-a-box mattress launched by Jas Bagniewski in 2014. They sell their mattresses online, but they also have mattress showrooms at Debenhams, Next, and Fenwick across England.

Eve Sleep’s mission is to provide mattresses to everyone, especially the average folk! In the memory foam range, there’s the Eve Original for a more affordable option. If you want a more luxurious mattress, you can choose the Eve Premium Mattress instead.

The first-ever all-foam mattress that Eve Sleep released was the Eve Original (which was later known as the Eve Lighter, though Eve Sleep no longer manufactures this mattress). It immediately captured sleepers’ hearts with its patented Evercomfort® layer, which gives you a no-sinking and more breathable sleeping experience.

All in all, they have 6 mattresses you can choose from:

  • Original Mattress
  • Original Hybrid Mattress
  • Premium Mattress
  • Premium Hybrid Mattress
  • Lighter Mattress
  • Lighter Hybrid Mattress

You’d be hard-pressed not to grab one of these for yourself!

Do you wanna know how Eve currently performs? If 4.6 out of 5 stars from a massive 6,000 ratings on Trustpilot is anything to go by, it clearly shows that Eve sleep is still smashing it!

For this review, we’ll take a look at the Eve Premium Mattress. Excited? C’mon!

Mattress at a Glance

The Eve Premium mattress is an all-foam bed reaching up to 28cm of mattress height. Do you know that one of my favourite things about Eve Sleep is its strict compliance with safety standards? Here are some of their certifications:

  • All foam materials used are CertiPUR® certified and CFC and PBDE free.
  • Eve Sleep obtains its raw materials from National Bed Federation members to ensure high quality.
  • Each Eve mattress complies with UK fire regulations BS 7177:2008 +A1:2011 Low hazard for domestic use.
  • Eve Sleep also manufactures its mattresses using ISO 9001 quality standards.

If you want a literally healthy sleep, choose Eve Sleep!

Wondering what’s inside the Eve Premium mattress? Let’s take a look!

  1. Top Cover

The OEKO-TEX® certified cover of the Eve Premium mattress is ingenious. Guess what it’s made of: 97% polyester, 2% elastane and…1% silver! Notable, isn’t it? Accordingly, Eve Sleep placed it there to give the cover natural antibacterial properties.

Also, the cover is removable and machine-washable at 40°C. What else could you ask for?

  1. Floatfoam® Layer with active cooling

The Floatfoam® layer is an upgrade from the original Evercomfort layer®. Both of them prevent you from sinking in the mattress, but Floatfoam® is much softer and pressure-relieving to give you that weightless feel. No wonder it’s called float foam!

It’s also graphite-infused to help you stay cool throughout the night.

  1. Memory Layer with active cooling

If the Floatfoam® layer isn’t pressure-relieving enough, they also added a graphite-infused memory layer for more light relief and active cooling.

  1. Support Layer

This is the first firm layer you’ll encounter. It’s constructed specifically to make sure your spine remains straight throughout the night.

  1. Base Layer

The base layer is “extra strong” as it’s the main support layer taking care of your spinal alignment. It prolongs the mattress’s lifespan by preventing sagging. It also has 7-contour zones to give pressure relief, especially to your hips and shoulders.

  1. Anti-slip base

This non-slip coated base is essential to keep all the mattress layers in one place.

Off-Gassing

Off-gassing refers to the new, chemical smell that bed-in-a-box mattresses give off when they inflate. Depending on the intensity of the smell, it may last for a week or so. Is it safe? As long as you purchase your mattress from certified brands that follow safe protocols (*cough* Eve Sleep), then there’s nothing to worry about.

Is it normal? Certainly! All bed-in-a-box mattresses off-gas whether you pick up the smell or not.

I’ll share my unboxing experience with you to have an idea of how well the Eve Premium Mattress performed in the off-gassing area.

The Eve Premium mattress arrived early in the morning, right before I was about to fly out of the house for work. I unboxed it as fast as I could, placed it on top of the bed frame, then left it alone because I had to go to work (to help pay for it, haha)

When I arrived home from work, I excitedly bounded up to the 3rd floor (it’s where my bedroom is located) to check on it. Since I didn’t leave the windows open while I was gone, I expected the off-gassing smell to permeate the room. And so I was amazed when I hardly smelled anything!

This minimal off-gassing is quite rare for bed-in-a-box mattresses. Even the Eve Original had much stronger off-gassing than this. Thumbs up for the Eve Premium in the off-gassing department!

Rating: 5 / 5

Firmness

Mattress firmness is very subjective because what’s firm for me may be medium-soft for you. Why so? How you feel mattress firmness depends on how your body reacts to the mattress. Since our bodies respond differently to the mattress (even if it happened to be the exact same mattress), we will also have different opinions about its firmness.

I’m a natural side sleeper, and I have average-sized shoulders. But if someone like, uhh…Henry Cavill sleeps on his side, he may find the mattress softer than I do.

Why? Because he has broader shoulders. And his heavier body build exerts more significant pressure on his shoulder! As a result of this heavier pressure on his shoulder, he’ll perceive the mattress softer.

How then can you figure out if you’ll like the mattress firmness of the Eve Premium? The most straightforward advice I can give you is: try it yourself! Eve Sleep offers a 100 free night’s trial. So if you don’t like it, simply return it before your trial ends, and you can have your money back. There’s nothing to lose!

So how firm is the Eve Premium for me?

From my own experience (I’m 75kg/165lbs), the Eve Premium is medium-firm overall (6.5 out of 10 on the mattress firmness scale). I say “overall” because the first thing I always feel when I lay on it is “Aah, soft bed”.

With traditional memory foam beds, it usually takes some time before you sink in the mattress, and that’s the time you feel light relief. But with the Eve Premium mattress, you instantly feel light relief the moment you plop down on it, thanks to the soft Floatfoam® and the memory layer below it.

Will you sink in the mattress? Nope. The firmer support and base layers work together to prevent you from sinking in and help keep your spine straight.

The Eve Premium is medium-firm for me overall.

Rating: 6.5/10

Is it Good for Backsleepers?

What back sleepers need: Medium-firm to firm

Pressure Point: Lower Back

Back sleepers need a medium-firm to firm mattress to prevent your lower back from sinking in, maintaining your spinal alignment. If your mattress were any softer, your lower back might potentially sink in, distorting your spinal alignment.

Average weight Back sleeper: Between 59-104kg (130-230lbs)

This is where the Eve Premium mattress excels (also with front-sleeping, as you’ll see later!)

I felt absolutely comfy, laying on my back on the Eve Premium mattress. I find myself sneaking in for a noontime nap.

When I lay on the Eve Premium mattress, I immediately feel the softness that the Floatfoam® layer and the memory layers provide. I almost always puff out a sigh of relief.

The best part? My lower back doesn’t sink! That’s because of the firm support layer and the “extra strong” base layer that ensures your spine stays straight.

Lightweight Back sleeper: Less than 59kg (130lbs)

Since you weigh lighter than me, you’ll exert less pressure on the Eve Premium mattress. Meaning? There’s no danger of you sinking in the mattress! The firm support and thick base layers won’t find any problems keeping you straight atop the mattress.

However, since you’ll feel that the mattress is more firm than what I feel, you may not find the Floatfoam® layer and the memory layer as contouring as you might like. Feel free to check out these memory foam toppers for added comfort if that’s the case. INTERNAL LINK.

But if you don’t mind sleeping on a firm mattress, then the Eve Premium is the right choice for you.

Heavyweight Back sleeper: More than 104kgs (230lbs)

Since you weigh heavier than me, you’ll exert more pressure on the Eve Premium mattress. As a result, you’ll really dig into both the Floatfoam® layer and the memory foam layer, and they’ll respond to you with more contouring.

Does this mean you’ll sink in? Nope! The support and base layers can hold you and keep your spine straight on top of the Eve Premium mattress.

Verdict? You’ll have a fantastic experience back-sleeping on the Eve Premium mattress.

Rating: 5/5

Is it Good for Side sleepers?

What side sleepers need: Very soft to medium soft

Pressure Point: Shoulder

Side sleepers need a very soft to medium soft mattress to allow your shoulder to sink in for maximum pressure relief. If the mattress is too firm, your shoulder may feel squashed underneath the weight of your body.

Average weight Side Sleeper: Between 59-104kg (130-230lbs)

Since the Eve Premium mattress is on the medium-firm level, it may not be the most suitable for side sleepers. Take it from a natural side-sleeper like myself!

When I slept on my side on the Eve Premium mattress, I instantly felt the light relief from the Floatfoam® layer and memory layers.

But I didn’t sink in further (I wish I did!)

The shoulder area is softer than other bed areas due to the 7-contour zones cut into the base layer. However, I still felt that the Eve Premium is a tad too firm for side sleepers.

So if you’re a side sleeper and you’re looking for softer mattresses, consider checking these out. INTERNAL LINK.

Lightweight Side Sleeper: Less than 59kg (130lbs)

Since you weigh less than me, you’ll exert less pressure on the Eve Premium mattress. Meaning? You’ll find the mattress more firm than what I felt it to be!

Of course, you’ll feel the soft comfort of both the Floatfoam® layer and the memory layer. However, you may want a mattress with more “give” so your shoulder can sink in the mattress for maximum pressure relief.

Sadly, the strong support and base layers of the Eve Premium mattress won’t let you sink in.

But don’t worry! I’ve got you covered. Check out my recommendations here if you’d like a softer mattress suitable for lightweight side sleepers like yourself. INTERNAL LINK.

Heavyweight Side Sleeper: More than 104kgs (230lbs)

Since you weigh more than me, you’ll exert more pressure on the Eve Premium mattress. If I felt that the mattress is around 6.5 out of 10 (medium-firm), you may find it somewhere along 5.5 – 6 (medium-soft to medium-firm).

Meaning? You’ll find the mattress softer than I did. Mainly because the Floatfoam® layer and the memory layer provide excellent contouring to lull you to sleep. However, the more robust support and base layers prevent you from sinking in as much as is comfortable side-sleeping.

So if you want to check out softer mattresses that are more shoulder-friendly, consider clicking here.

Is it Good for Front Sleepers?

What front sleepers need: Medium Firm to Firm

Pressure points: Stomach and Hips

Front sleepers need a medium-firm to firm mattress to keep your stomach and hips from sinking in. You’d suffer from poor spinal alignment if your mattress were any softer because your stomach would sink in, pulling your spine down with it.

Average Weight Front Sleeper: Between 59-104kg (130-230lbs)

Front sleeping on the Eve Premium mattress is fantastic! You know how it is with front sleeping. We need a mattress that’s firm enough to keep our stomachs aligned with the rest of our bodies. Fortunately, both the support layer and the extra strong base layer were more than enough to maintain my spine alignment.

And it wasn’t hard-rock either to make me feel that I was squirming on the floor. The soft Floatfoam® layer and the memory layer made sure I was comfortably snuggled on top of the Eve Premium. Plus, I felt my hips gently cradled because of the 7-contour zones cut into the base layer. What more could I ask for? The Eve Premium is every average front sleeper’s dream!

Lightweight Front Sleeper: Less than 59kg (130lbs)

As a lightweight sleeper, you’ll exert less pressure on the mattress, meaning you’ll find it firmer than I did. What does this mean for you?

It means that both the support layer and the zoned-base layer can keep your spine straight. No doubt about it! However, despite the Floatfoam® layer and memory layers, you may still potentially find the Eve Premium a tad too firm

Perhaps you’d want to consider taking a look at these mattress toppers for added softness without compromising your spinal alignment. INTERNAL LINK.

Heavyweight Front Sleeper: More than 104kgs (230lbs)

As a heavyweight sleeper, you’ll exert more pressure on the mattress, meaning you’ll find it softer than I did. What does this mean for you?

It means you’ll experience more pressure relief from the Eve Premium Hybrid thanks to the Floatfoam® layer and the memory layer. Not to mention the 7-contour zones cut into the base layer for added light relief on your hips!

PLUS, you’re in no danger of sinking. That’s because the support and base layers are firm enough to keep you straight on top of the mattress.

Is it Good for Combo Sleepers?

What combo sleepers need: A bit of a bounciness

When you change sleeping positions multiple times a night, you’re definitely a combo sleeper. What does a combo sleeper need? A bit of bounciness to aid your movements. Otherwise, you’ll feel as if you’re changing positions on the floor for all the support it gave you.

Was the Eve Premium mattress combo-sleeper-friendly?

Not very much. I felt it was a tad unresponsive to movement because of its all-foam construction. But I give it a score of 3 out of 5 because I didn’t sink in the mattress as I usually experience with traditional memory foam.

So it’s not responsive, but neither is it inhibiting. If you’re looking for a bouncier mattress, perhaps you’d want to check this out. INTERNAL LINK.

Rating: 3/5

Is it Good for Hot Sleepers?

Who’s a hot sleeper? (Me!!) If you’re a hot sleeper, I’m sure you’re familiar with the daily struggles of waking up drowning in your own sweat because you slept on a warm mattress.

I’m afraid that’s what I experienced with the all-foam Eve Premium mattress. I’m aware that both the Floatfoam® layer and memory layers have “active cooling” properties because of graphite infusion.

However, I think it wasn’t cooling enough for a hard-core hot sleeper like myself. If you’re terribly heat-sensitive like I am, perhaps you’d want to consider these cooler mattresses. INTERNAL LINK.

Rating: 2.5/5

With A Sleeping Partner

If you have a sleeping partner, you have to acquire a mattress with excellent motion isolation (like Eve Premium!) Motion isolation limits motion transfer so you wouldn’t notice when your partner wakes up in the middle of the night to go for the loo because of a loaded bladder. Neither will your partner bolt awake because you decided to change your sleeping position for the nth time.

Thank goodness my girlfriend, and I have no problems with the Eve Premium regarding motion transfer. Of course, the motion-silencing property of the Eve Premium mattress won’t help cure my girlfriend’s excessive cuddling (on second thought, release the cuddles!)

Suppose you have a sleeping partner or pets who hop in and out of bed. In that case, the all-foam layers of the Eve Premium Hybrid efficiently silences motion so you can have a peaceful, uninterrupted sleep.

Rating: 5/5

Edge Support

Do you like sitting on the edge of your bed, checking emails or reading a book before you “officially wake up” for the day? Welp, that’s only possible if your bed has good firm edges! The edges of traditional memory foams usually compress to nothing when you sit or lay on them.

But not so with the Eve Premium mattress. When they say the base layer is “extra strong”, they mean serious business. So if you want to make the most out of your bed space, consider grabbing the Eve Premium mattress for yourself!

Rating: 4/ 5

Best Features

So what are my 3 favourite features with the Eve Premium mattress?

  • Motion Isolation
  • Firm edge Support
  • Zoned support

The motion isolating properties of the all-foam Eve Premium is excellent for my girlfriend and me. Our dogs can hop in and out of bed, and we don’t even notice! The firm edge support is a perfect touch because I can use my bed more than if the edges weren’t strong. And who wouldn’t like the comfort that comes with the zoned support?
