The Eve original mattress is great if you’re a restless sleeper who needs comfort. Every layer on this mattress is designed to be supportive and keep you comfortable in your sleep.
I’m not very restless when I sleep, but I have a few aches and pains. My back and shoulder specifically are areas of contention for me. The Eve mattress lived up to the hype and eased any pain that might have blossomed.
Three foam layers help support the neck, shoulder, hips, and back. There’s an open-celled foam, a visco-elastic memory foam, and a base layer with contour zones. Each one of these layers offers better support and more pressure relief, and there’s even edge support!
My girlfriend thoroughly enjoyed the mattress. As a lightweight side sleeper, she found the mattress incredibly comfortable. However, even though I’m of average weight, I tend to run hot through the night. The mattress wasn’t the coolest I’ve ever tried.
Memory foam mattresses tend to absorb lots of heat and aren’t usually suitable for those who sleep hot. However, the open-celled foam layer worked well enough to keep the mattress from being overly hot.
Despite not having the most incredible temperature control, the mattress was still exceptional in support, pressure relief, and low-motion transfer. For my girlfriend and me, the mattress worked well.
However, it may be too soft for those of a heavier weight. While the mattress is supportive, it may not offer the support they require.
Overall, it’s a great mattress. There’s no wondering why the mattress or the company is so prevalent in the UK. However, it would be best to try it out before committing. Luckily, the company offers a 100-night trial, so you can tell if it works well for you.
But, if you’re looking for a medium-firm memory foam mattress and suffer from back pains and alignment issues, this mattress is excellent for you. It’s almost orthopaedic and does a beautiful job easing any tensions and pressures you might have when you’re sleeping. If you or your partner are restless sleepers, give this mattress a try!

Nectar is a new name in the mattress industry, but it’s well-known. I’ve consistently heard about the benefits of the Nectar memory foam mattress but had yet to try it out for myself. There was an immense hype surrounding it, and in all seriousness, I can say I now know why!
The Nectar memory foam mattress caters exceptionally well to average weight side sleepers. As an average weight side sleeper, I loved this mattress. From the firmness to the support, I loved it.
Let’s dive a little deeper into the mattress, so I can tell you what all the hype is about. The mattress has five layers to it. All five layers are dedicated to supporting! Most memory foam mattresses offer that feeling of being hugged, and the nectar mattress doesn’t disappoint.
The fourth layer supports your whole body and offers enhanced spinal alignment correctly. There are seven contoured zones to help various parts of your body. Not to mention, the third layer of pressure-relieving foam does wonders for your alignment.
Apart from the different supportive layers, Nectar tried its level best to keep it cool. Memory foam mattresses are notorious for being heat absorbent. While the Nectar memory foam mattress isn’t as good at keeping cool as a pocket sprung mattress, it does well.
As someone who sleeps hot, I was pleasantly surprised at how well the breathable and quilted layers improved airflow and kept you cool. There was some heat absorption, so this may not be the right mattress for you if you tend to sleep hot like my brother Leon.
My girlfriend also had a few issues with the mattress. While the firmness was great for me, my girlfriend wasn’t as comfortable on this firmer mattress. However, she could appreciate the hypoallergenic and adaptive cooling cover.
The Nectar memory foam mattress was superb as an average weight side sleeper. I slept well despite the heat absorption and found that my back pain didn’t flare up as much! If you have back pain issues and require something firm yet comfortable, the Nectar mattress will work well.
Best Hybrid Mattress – Brook and Wilde’s The Lux Mattress
Key Features
- 5-Layers
- 2 Pocket Sprung Layers
- Hypoallergenic Cover
- Varying degrees of firmness are offered.
Recommended For
- No sinkage: If you don’t appreciate the sinking feeling standard hybrid mattresses offer, you’ll understand the Lux.

- Hot sleeper: This might not be the best mattress if you tend to heat up in bed.

Hybrid mattresses are undoubtedly some of the most high-quality mattresses on the market. While still new, Brook and Wilde have entered the market to rival the cheaper competitors and provide excellent quality mattresses.
The Lux Mattress from Brook and Wilde has quickly made itself known. The five-layered gem isn’t your run-of-the-mill hybrid. Somewhat unique in its composition. Instead of the usual single-layer pocket spring, the Lux Mattress comes with two pocket spring layers!
Generally, pocket springs provide an incredible amount of support, so hybrid mattresses are so valuable. However, you get better support and more breathability with two pocket spring layers.
Memory foam isn’t known to be cool and comfortable. Rather the opposite. The second pocket spring layer promotes more excellent airflow keeping the mattress cool through the night!
I’m someone who sleeps hot and requires a mattress that is cooling. The Lux mattress wasn’t the best at providing a cool sleeping experience.
Despite the two spring layers, the mattress managed to retain some heat. The consequence was that the mattress got softer due to the heat.
Apart from the second layer of pocket springs, the mattress comes with wave-form memory foam. The wave-form memory foam mattress comes right between the two pocket spring mattresses as the third layer. Offering added support and better alignment. The wave-formation allows for every contour of your body to be supported; I know mine certainly was!
Before I get into the mattress’s support, I must mention that Brook and Wilde provide an option to choose your firmness. As I prefer my mattresses medium-firm, I opted for a medium-firm mattress. It was more on the firm side of a medium-firm but still managed to be comfortable and supportive, and it helped with the aches and pains.
While I couldn’t find too many faults with this new mattress, my girlfriend did point out that the non-washable cover would be a problem for some. While it may pose a problem, I believe that the pros outweigh the cons of this mattress!
Brook and Wilde are relatively new companies. While competing in the yet unsaturated bed-in-a-box category, the company outdo some of the best companies. Having come out with two mattresses, you can’t fault them for having a few issues.
Best Firm Mattress – Silentnight Eco Comfort Mattress

Silentnight is a British mattress company that has consistently impressed. The Eco Comfort mattress is a part of a collection, and this particular one might be the absolute best. As a sustainable product, you’re doing your part for the world.
The Eco Comfort mattress is created using a combination of memory foam and recycled plastic. Despite the slightly unconventional material choices, the mattress has some incredible features.
The one that I liked the most was the temperature regulation. As someone who runs hot when they sleep, I’m never comfortable on a mattress that can’t keep cool.
The combination of pocket springs that the recycled plastic layer allows for improved airflow and temperature regulation. I found the mattress to be cool and not heat absorbent!
Apart from the temperature regulation, I found the mattress incredibly supportive for my back and shoulders. The array of pocket springs does wonders at isolating parts of your body and providing the necessary amount of support.
Not to mention, the springs aren’t just any ordinary springs but Silentnight’s patented Mirapocket System. It focuses on contouring your whole body and keeping your spine aligned and supported. So, you don’t have to wake up to aches and pains in the morning.
Despite being a medium-firm mattress, the Eco comfort was great for my girlfriend! Despite being slightly firmer than she liked, the topmost soft comfort layer made it comfortable even for her to lie down. Not to mention, the hypoallergenic qualities impressed her.
The mattress reduces moisture and prevents any dust-mite allergies, so if you’re someone who requires some hypoallergenic severe qualities, the Eco Comfort is for you.
What wasn’t ideal for me was the lack of edge support. If the edge support wasn’t great in the first few days, I dread to think of what it will be a few years from now. It is a personal preference, and testing isn’t a bad idea!
Best Mattress For Stomach Sleepers – Carnell Super Sprung Mattress
Key Features
- 1,682 Pocket Springs
- Natural Wool Fluffing
- Hand-tufted
- Very Firm and Supportive
Recommended For
- Heavyweight sleepers: The mattress is firm and allows airflow
- Hot sleepers: If you tend to overheat, don’t worry; this mattress keeps you cool.
Avoid If
- If you don’t like firm mattresses, you won’t like this one.
Mattress Firmness:
Mattress Guarantee:
Mattresses are often catered to a person of average weight. While it works well for me, not all mattresses created for an average weight category work well. Sometimes, the best mattresses are made with a different section in mind.
The Carnell mattress was created by Dream with heavier people in mind. This means that the mattress hyper focuses on support in a way that no other mattress on this list does. Even if you don’t fit the particular weight range, it is still a good option if you’re a back or stomach sleeper that prefers a firm mattress.
While I am a side sleeper, I could still appreciate the mattress’s support. I have back pains and shoulder pains that plague me through the night and morning right when I wake up. As long as I was on my back, the mattress made sure to be supportive. I barely felt any aches during the night and was perfectly fine in the morning.
While it did a marvellous job for my back and shoulder pains, it provided minimal comfort when sleeping on my side. The mattress wasn’t able to fully adjust to the several contours of my body. It was best when I was lying on my back or my stomach.
Since it was created with heavier sleepers, the mattress has another helpful feature – temperature regulation. I run hot when I sleep and require a cool and temperature-controlled mattress. The Carnell mattress is full of natural wool and pocket springs that ensure consistent airflow.
The natural freshness of the wool and consistent airflow means that the bed remains cool despite your body temperature. I was perfectly cool while sleeping on the mattress. So, despite the slight discomfort I faced on my side, the mattress was very comfortable.
Not to mention, the support of the mattress extends to the edges. Consistent edge-to-edge support doesn’t prevent you from sinking into the mattress when you’re sitting on the edge and rolling around.
Overall, the Carnell mattress is cool, calm, and quiet. Everything you need from a mattress and life!
Best Mattress For Lightweight Sleepers – Emma Original Mattress
Key Features
- 3-Layers
- Medium Firmness
- Zero motion transfer
- Temperature regulating top cover
Recommended For
- Back sleepers: Most back sleepers will find the mattress suitable for spine alignment
- Lightweight sleepers: The mattress’s softness, medium firmness, and overall support make it great for light-weighted individuals!
Avoid If
- Stomach sleepers: The softness of the Emma only increases tension in the hips and spine
- Heavyweight sleepers: Such sleepers may find themselves sinking too deeply into the soft mattress
Mattress Firmness:
Mattress Guarantee:
The Emma is a foam mattress designed to give optimal support and comfort to all! This mattress is ideal for most sleepers with its spine alignment features and softness.
The mattress is averagely firm, with the zoned support layer providing added firmness to a back sleeper like myself. There are three mattress components, all responsible for making the mattress excellent!
Firstly, we have the temperature regulating cover, which provides airflow. Then comes the first layer of Airgocell foam, which relieves pressure on the spine and hips. It’s incredibly bouncy and responsive.
The second layer is of soft memory foam. It provides body contouring and support. Lastly, we have a sturdy and supportive polyfoam layer. The zoned support is a winning feature in this layer as it helps the body cushion and life throughout the night.
This mattress works wonders as it provides the proper spine alignment, softness and support to my body. My girlfriend is an average weighted individual who keeps switching between all positions, so she feels like the mattress works great!
Speaking of partners, this mattress isolates motion well. Despite my girlfriend moving in bed so much, I can barely feel her vibrations. Despite many foam mattresses trapping heat, the Emma doesn’t disappoint!
The breathable cover has cooling features that regulate temperature. The Airgocell foam is open-celled, thus helping the heat to dissipate!
When it comes to pressure relief, the mattress does an excellent job. Like most foam mattresses, the layers provide support and spinal alignment. The memory foam helps contour the body, while the top layer polyfoam is good at relieving pressure and cushioning the body.
If you like to move around in bed, the mattress is relatively easy in that department. The polyfoam layer responds well to movement and is bouncy. However, this responsiveness is dependent on bodily sizes, so heavily weighted individuals may feel like the mattress is too cushiony and unresponsive.
The Original Emma comes at a great price compared to its other counterparts. It’s the most awarded and best mattresses in the UK, and rightly so!
Best For Average Weighted Sleepers – Simba Hybrid Mattress

- Back sleepers: The Zoned Support foam is ideal for back sleepers

Avoid If
- Stomach sleepers: The added pressure faced by stomach sleepers can make the overall experience uncomfortable
- Lightweight sleepers: The mattress may be too firm for lightweight sleepers
Mattress Firmness:
Mattress Guarantee:
The Simba mattress is one of the most comfortable mattresses globally with its unique features and optimal pricing. It’s a hybrid mattress designed especially for average weighted sleepers like myself!
The mattress is made of five layers, while the cover is polyester and is very stretchy, durable and breathable. With this one, you won’t face any pesky issue of the coverslipping off the mattress corners!
The second layer is made of latex foam. It offers both cooling and comfort. Additionally, you’ll have an incredible bounce with the help of this 5cm foam!
The third layer consists of 2 cm micro foils. This thin layer of coils does a great job of providing sturdy support and a solid foundation to the overall mattress. It adds to the bounce, springiness and responsive nature of the mattress.
The next layer is that of our favourite memory foam. Memory foam is excellent for providing a layer of softness and comfort in contrast to the bounciness of the springs. It also provides support and compression to the body.
The last layer is the 15 cm support foam. It gives great shape to the overall mattress. It acts as a zoned support system, which significantly helps with spine alignment and pressure relief.
The firmness of the mattress is medium for my physical size. My girlfriend also finds the mattress firm enough to provide support and pressure relief. The coils help compress the pressure applied and offer a friendly, supportive feel to the whole body.
The support of the mattress is incredible as a back sleeper. My girlfriend switches her sleeping position a lot, so she sinks too deeply if she wants to sleep on her stomach. But, the stomach position is relatively unpopular, so this isn’t as much of an issue!
The mattress has excellent edge support. Whether you prefer sleeping or sitting on the edge, you won’t feel any lag or pressure.
The cooling features of the Simba are great. The thin cover, latex foam, and micro coils add breathability and nicely amplify air circulation.
The price of the mattress is excellent considering all its expansive features. With a trial period of 100 nights and a 10-year warranty, this is an excellent investment for your sleeping experience!
Best For Heavy Weighted Sleepers – OTTY Original Hybrid Mattress
Key Features
- 5-Layers
- Above-average Firmness
- Hybrid mattress
- Contains full-sized 2000 pocket springs
Recommended For
- All kinds of sleeping positions: Ideally, the mattress has been designed to provide a firm and cooling experience in all sleeping positions
- Heavyweight sleepers: The above-average firmness contrasted with soft foam layers makes it dreamy for this category of sleepers
Avoid If
- Softness preference: The mattress may be too firm for those who like to sleep with softer mattresses
Mattress Firmness:
Mattress Guarantee:
The Otty Mattress has many attractive features, making it ideal for many kinds of sleepers! Its comfort, unique airflow system and springiness make it one of the best mattresses for average and heavy weighted sleepers!
The mattress is made of a breathable, washable cover and four other layers. The first layer is a temperature controlling memory foam. It’s fantastic for circulating air and maintaining cool. The memory foam also helps with creating a responsive feel.
The next layer is the transition foam. As the name suggests, it provides a seamless transition between the memory foam and the springs underneath. It adds a layer of comfort, durability and support to the sleeper.
The 2,000 pocket springs are essential as they add a bouncy springiness, support and overall firmness to the mattress. These encapsulated 16cm pocket springs reduce motion transfer and add much stability.
The side layer is a unique addition as its main job is to keep all the components together. It ensures strong edge support – ideal for those who like to sleep on the edge. It helps provide a solid foundation to the overall mattress.
The side support panels are fantastic for providing airflow support. These help with air regulation and dream for sleepers with a cooling preference.
When it comes to firmness, the mattress has an above-average feel. So, it provides the optimal spine alignment, helping the shoulders and hips stay pain-free. The mattress is very inclusive of sleeping positions. My girlfriend is a tosser and likes to sleep in all sorts of positions at night. The two of us never felt uncomfortable!
My girlfriend is an averagely sized back sleeper, and she adores the mattress! The airflow system in the mattress does wonders for both of us since we always used to feel very warm while sharing a bed. But, the cooling gel and various pinholes in the Otty allow for a very pleasing and breezy sleeping experience.
The edge support in the mattress is insanely impressive- thanks to the spring coils and support layers. You’ll feel the same amount of pressure and support no matter where you sleep or sit.
Hence, even the motion transfer in the Otty is very low. So, my girlfriend and I aren’t (thankfully) aware of each other’s tossing and turning. Although, I will say that there are other mattresses in the market which have better motion transfer
If you’re looking for a mattress that cools, provides support and is affordable, then the Otty is the winner you’ve been searching for.
Buyers Guide
I’ve delineated the best mattresses in the market for various kinds of preferences and needs. Now is the time to understand what one needs to look for when researching the best mattress.
Whether you’re suffering from aching bones or want to give your girlfriend a reasonable time (wink wink), there are a few key factors everyone needs to look out for when doing some mattress research.
The deciding factors are enormous and can be overwhelming- so don’t worry. We’ve got your back covered (quite literally). Read our nifty buyer’s guide below!
Memory Foam
Memory foam mattresses are one of the most popular mattresses on the market. It’s affordable, pressure-relieving and contours to a sleeper’s body.
The comfort provided by a memory foam mattress is unparalleled. However, if you’re looking for a firmer mattress that offers extensive spinal support, this may not be the strongest option.
Latex
Latex mattresses are, more or less, similar to memory foam. They’re just as affordable and pressure relieving. However, latex comes with slightly more bounce and responsiveness.
Unless you’re looking for a firmer mattress that aids back relief, the latex mattress is good.
Spring
Pocket springs and Innersprings are the most popular spring mattresses.
Pocket spring mattresses are great for pressure relief and spinal alignment. They’re typically more comfortable than traditional innerspring mattresses. However, they’re the costlier of the two.
Hybrid
These mattresses combine memory foam and spring, hence the name. Due to this combination, they’re very firm and comfortable at the same time.
Hybrid mattresses are great at providing relief to joints and hips. They help with spinal alignment and support.
Cost
One of the essential factors to account for when searching for the perfect mattress. Cost is a make or breaks factor, so you should decide beforehand what you’d want your budget to look like before shopping.
Ask yourself whether you would like to factor in quality, recommendations, or more specific features. Once your list is curated, go online and search for mattresses based on added cost filter.
Generally, air bed mattresses are considered the most expensive (and luxurious to sleep in), followed by hybrid and latex mattresses. The most affordable mattresses are the memory foam and innerspring ones.
Size
There are various mattress sizes available in the market. Choose your mattress accordingly based on the number of people sleeping in bed.
If two people are sleeping on a mattress, a King or Queen size is advisable. California’s enormous size is ideal if more than two people need the bed.
Generally, a Twin or Twin XL would be sufficient if you sleep alone.
Firmness
Firmness levels of the bed are very subjective, but they can significantly impact your sleeping experience. Here, the sleeper’s sleeping position and weight are crucial.
For heavyweights, an above-average to very firm mattress is best for providing the much-needed spinal support and alignment. However, for heavyweights who like the feeling of sinking into softness, look out for a mattress that is average to above-average firm and has soft layers present.
When it comes to averagely weighted people, they’re in luck since most mattresses would suit them. Whether the mattress is very soft and cushiony or very firm, you’d be able to sleep comfortably in most of them based on personal liking.
A soft mattress with low to average firmness is ideal for light-weighted people. Choose an averagely firm mattress with back problems and a milder mattress for the dreamy cushiony feel.
Noiselessness
Noiselessness is a feature that’s a must-have if you’re sexually active. Whether a one-night stand or a long-term girlfriend, you’ll want to have a good time in a bed frame that doesn’t make annoyingly raucous sounds.
Generally, innerspring mattresses tend to be noisy. If you or your neighbour have thin walls, prioritise this feature in your mattress purchase!
Durability
The durability of a mattress is highly contingent on the brand choice. The beds mentioned above come from reputable, accredited brands delivering fine mattresses for years.
The mattress longevity is contingent on how you maintain your mattress. The official brand websites will inform you of the need to flip your mattress to increase its life span.
Ensure your kids don’t jump excessively on the mattress or spill stuff that’ll cause a stain and a heavy wash. Clean and dust the areas around your mattress to prevent insects and dampness from collecting.
Cooling Abilities
If you’re a hot sleeper, that means you’re extremely attractive. Also, you probably tend to sweat and heat up while sleeping.
Many mattresses in the market regulate body temperature and air circulation. This feature helps in dissipating heat and creating more room to breathe. In this way, you’d be able to sleep better and cooler.
Cooling is an important aspect to consider if you’re on the heavier end, living in a warm area and sleeping with partners. The tendency to heat up in the above cases is very high so investing in a cool mattress is a life-saver!
Spinal Support
Suppose you suffer from backaches, disjointed hips or other similar ailments. In that case, it is crucial to look out for a mattress that offers spinal alignment, pressure relief and bodily support.
Opting for a mattress that provides a balance of firmness, support, and bodily contouring is essential. The amount of sinkage the mattress allows will determine the support you need based on weight and position.
Edge Support
Suppose you like sleeping on the edge or prefer doing activities while perched on the corner. In that case, edge support is an excellent feature to look out for.
Motion Transfer
Mattress with the motion isolation feature will reduce motion and dissipate pressure evenly across the entire bed.
Such mattresses are ideal for multiple sleepers who’re sharing the mattress. Additionally, suppose you or your partner move in bed frequently. In that case, motion isolation is critical, for it’ll make you unaware of the tossing and turning.
Often, we wake up groggily in the morning because our partner has woken up. The noise and bed movement is very annoying. You can omit this disturbance by investing in a high-motion transfer bed!
